Short health walks in Cleobury Mortimer

Don’t stop there....

We hope that for many new walkers the short WfH walks are just the starting point for greater enjoyment of being out in the fresh air and wonderful Shropshire countryside, as well as improved wellbeing and lifestyle. CMFA has produced a series of longer walking routes – details of these can be found on the Walks leaflets page. Also, you may want to come along on the Parish  Walks organised at weekends throughout the year and led by CMFA members – details on the Parish  Walks page of this website and on notice boards around the town.

More information about the benefits of walking can be found on the Walking for Health website or by contacting Helen Foxallat or on 01743 255059

Cleobury Mortimer Walking for Health is supported by CMFA, Lacon Childe School, CoCo and the Cleobury Patients’ Voice

Our summer programme of walks finishes on November 15th. They were well attended and included outings to Cleobury Golf Club, Clee Hill & Upper Arley. We were very grateful to Lacon Childe School for again providing excellent refreshments.

WfH will again run a Winter Programme to coincide with CoCo coffee mornings on 2nd & 4th Wednesday from December through February.

Walks will start from Cleobury Market Hall at 10am, no notice of attendance is required.

The dates are as below:

 December 13  January 10 & 24    February 14 & 28

Please come along rain, snow or shine, you can decide at the time whether to walk or just sample the coffee and CoCo’s lovely cakes (small charge). We particularly welcome folk who do not take much exercise or can only manage a short stroll and those uncomfortable with walking alone. These short walks of about 45 mins duration will be mainly on hard surfaces around town as the weather dictates. For further information please contact Alan Kimber 01299 271754.

The Summer Programme returns to the Sports & Fitness Centre  on March 7th 2018

Our walks of between 30 & 60 minutes are led by friendly trained people, are free, sociable and open to all abilities. There is no need to book, just turn up in good time with suitable clothing and sturdy footwear. The walks are a good opportunity for a social chat with the bonus of post walk refreshments kindly supplied by Lacon Childe School.

Experts recommend 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week for adults but only about a third of us achieve this. A small amount of regular exercise can significantly improve a person’s physical and mental health, well-being and confidence. It will also reduce the risk and effects of many health conditions.

WfH is particularly popular with the over 55s and people with lower than average levels of physical activity. However, please seek advice from your GP or nursing staff if you have a medical condition that is affected by physical exercise.

Local support is given by Shropshire Council and Cleobury Mortimer Footpath Association who by improving the condition and access to local footpaths has enabled Cleobury WfH to design a network of routes that avoid stiles. WfH is supported nationally by the Ramblers & Macmillan Cancer Support and is England’s largest network of health walk schemes, helping people to lead a more active lifestyle.
