Short health walks in Cleobury Mortimer

Our Summer programme of walks are twice monthly on 1st & 3rd Wednesday from March through November. These local walks of up to 2 miles (about 60 mins.)

Our Winter programme of walks are twice monthly on 2nd & 4th   Wednesday from December through February.

Summer & Winter walks, led by friendly trained people, are free, sociable and open to all abilities. There is no need to book, just turn up in good time with suitable clothing and sturdy footwear. The walks are a good opportunity for a social chat with the bonus of post walk refreshments.

Experts recommend 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week for adults but only about a third of us achieve this. A small amount of regular exercise can significantly improve a person’s physical and mental health, well-being and confidence. It will also reduce the risk and effects of many health conditions.

WfH is particularly popular with the over 55s and people with lower than average levels of physical activity. However, please seek advice from your GP or nursing staff, if you have a medical condition that is affected by physical exercise.

County support is given by Shropshire Council. Local support is provided by Lacon Childe School, CoCo  and CMFA who by improving the condition and access to local footpaths has enabled Cleobury WfH to design a network of routes that avoid stiles. WfH is supported nationally by the Ramblers and is England’s largest network of health walk schemes, helping people to lead a more active lifestyle.

More information about the benefits of walking can be found on the Walking for Health website www.walkingforhealth.org.uk or by contacting Helen.Foxall@shropshire.gov.uk or on 01743 255059.

Don’t stop there....

We hope that for many new walkers the short WfH walks are just the starting point for greater enjoyment of being out in the fresh air and wonderful Shropshire countryside, as well as improved wellbeing and lifestyle. CMFA has produced a series of longer walking routes. – details of these can be found on the Walks leaflets page.

You may want to come along on the Parish Walks organised at weekends throughout the year and led by CMFA members – details on the Parish Walks page of this website and on notice boards around the town.
